I did my first beer tasting when I was a student. Since then, I have never ceased to discover new ones on each journey. "The local beer, the one that you can't find elsewhere, with its aromas, its color, its perfume ...The White beer is my favorite ! 'Like all the girls' said François, the Brasserie de Monaco's brewer! Indeed, beer is brewed in the Principality ! It's the case since 2008 and they got many times medal winners ! You can try it at the Brasserie de Monaco, on the port. You might think it's only a bar where it's good to take the aperitif and to have lunch or dinner, it is true but it's not only that. The beer is home made ! You can visit the brewery while tasting your beer, just ask, that's what I did !
This is where I learned the process of beer making and all the ingredients that one needs :
-water of good quality as we have in Monaco,
-malt, a processed cereal that brings the sugar from which alcohol is produced, and which plays a decisive role in the color of the beer,
-hop, the spice of the beer that plays a role in its aroma, it is linked to the terroir where it grows,
-and yeast.
The Brasserie de Monaco produces 3 types of beers :
-the Lager, which is close to the pilz, with a nice balance between malt and hops,
-the White, aroma of coriander and orange peel, close to Belgian white beers, with its special Monegasque touch,
-the Amber, English type, stronger, more full-bodied with a little caramel taste from malt.
You can only try the white and amber at the Brasserie de Monaco. But you can find the lager in some places in Monaco or in some cities around.
In addition to these 3 types, they prepare special beers for St Patrick 's Day, for the Grand Prix F1, for the Oktober Fest and for Christmas. And again, you can taste them only on the spot !
What is nice is that from 6 pm to 8 pm, it is the HAPPY HOURS at the Brasserie de Monaco : a good way to taste without moderation the local beverage !
There is also another range of the Brasserie de Monaco for the French Market and for export. To know more about it, it is HERE
In talking with François et Valère, both brewers at the Brasserie de Monaco, I learned that artisanal beers are developed more and more. Nowadays, people are stopping in the beer shelves and looking for new flavors. Moreover, amateurs can now make their own beer since there are many homemade kits !
